Key takeaways

  • Creating a Solana SPL token with Metaplex metadata costs about 0.0163 SOL in network costs: rent for the mint, the metadata account and the creator's token account, plus a 0.01 SOL Metaplex create fee.
  • The Metaplex metadata account is the largest network cost of a new Solana token, about 0.0137 SOL, of which 0.01 SOL is a non-refundable Metaplex protocol fee.
  • A Solana token created with the spl-token CLI and no metadata costs only about 0.0026 SOL, but wallets show it as an unknown token without a name or logo.
  • Raydium charged a 0.15 SOL protocol fee to create a CPMM pool at the time of writing, and the SOL paired in any liquidity pool is capital at risk, not a fee.
  • Pump.fun listed creating a coin at 0 SOL in October 2026, charging instead a 1.25% fee on bonding-curve trades and 0.015 SOL when a coin graduates to PumpSwap.

The short answer#

Creating a Solana token with a name and logo costs about 0.0163 SOL in network costs: 0.00107 SOL rent for the mint, 0.00149 SOL for your token account and 0.0137 SOL for the Metaplex metadata account, which includes a 0.01 SOL Metaplex fee. That figure is the same with the command line or any tool. A no-code tool adds its own fee (0.1 SOL on SOLTidy), and a liquidity pool adds a creation fee plus whatever capital you deposit.

I built the SOLTidy Token Creator, so I have a stake in this question. The network numbers below are the same no matter who builds your transaction, and I will be explicit about where a free route exists.

What are you actually paying for when you create a Solana token?#

You pay rent for three accounts, a one-time Metaplex fee and the transaction fee. A Solana token is not a contract you deploy; it is a small mint account owned by the existing SPL Token program, plus the accounts around it.

  1. The mint account (82 bytes) stores supply, decimals and the mint and freeze authorities.
  2. Your associated token account (165 bytes) holds the supply you mint to yourself.
  3. The Metaplex metadata account stores the name, symbol and the URI of a JSON file with the logo. Without it, wallets list the token as unknown.
  4. The Metaplex create fee of 0.01 SOL, charged by the Token Metadata program when the metadata account is created.
  5. The transaction fee, 5,000 lamports per signature. Creating a mint needs two signatures (your wallet and the new mint keypair), so 0.00001 SOL.

Rent is a refundable storage deposit sized by bytes: (128 + bytes) x 5,080 lamports at the current rate. I explain the mechanics in what Solana rent is, and the rent calculator reads the live rate for any account size.

How much does each part cost, to the lamport?#

The network cost is 16,299,040 lamports, or about 0.0163 SOL, at the current rent rate. Here is the full breakdown.

ItemSizeLamportsSOLRefundable?
Mint account rent82 bytes1,066,8000.0010668No, a classic mint cannot be closed
Your token account rent165 bytes1,488,4400.00148844Yes, if you close the empty account
Metadata account rent607 bytes3,733,8000.0037338No, in practice
Metaplex create feen/a10,000,0000.01No
Transaction fee2 signatures10,0000.00001No
Network total16,299,040~0.0163

Two things stand out. First, the metadata is 84% of the bill, and most of that is the flat 0.01 SOL Metaplex fee, not rent. Second, the numbers used to be higher. Under the old rent rate of 6,960 lamports per byte the same three accounts cost about 0.0186 SOL including the Metaplex fee, which is why older guides quote "about 0.02 SOL". Tutorials from before the change also quote 0.00203928 SOL for the token account; today a new one costs 0.00148844 SOL.

A priority fee is optional. When the network is busy, wallets may add one, usually a few thousand to a few hundred thousand lamports, which does not change the total in any meaningful way.

How much does it cost to create a token with the CLI?#

With the spl-token command line, the cheapest real token costs about 0.0026 SOL: mint rent plus token account rent plus a few transaction fees. The CLI runs separate transactions for create-token, create-account and mint, so you pay three or four sets of 5,000-lamport signature fees instead of one, a difference of a few hundredths of a cent.

The catch is metadata. A plain spl-token create-token produces a classic SPL mint with no Metaplex account, and Phantom, Solflare and explorers show it as an unknown token without a name or logo. To fix that you either attach Metaplex metadata with the Metaplex SDK or tooling, which adds the same ~0.0137 SOL, or create a Token-2022 mint with the built-in metadata extension, which avoids the Metaplex fee but makes it a different kind of token. Either way, the CLI route to a token wallets can display costs roughly 0.0163 SOL for a classic token, the same as any tool, and zero in service fees.

If you are comfortable in a terminal, this is the cheapest option and I recommend it. The Solana token docs walk through it.

How much does SOLTidy charge to create a token?#

The Token Creator charges a flat 0.1 SOL per token, paid inside the same transaction, so a typical token with metadata costs about 0.1163 SOL in total. Ticking "revoke mint authority" at creation adds 0.02 SOL, for about 0.1363 SOL. Leaving the freeze authority unset and making the metadata immutable at creation cost nothing extra.

What the fee buys is one atomic transaction that creates the mint, your token account, the full supply and the metadata, with the logo and JSON pinned to IPFS when uploads are available, and the mint keypair generated in your browser. The panel reads the rent live and shows every line before you sign. It saves time and the classic mistakes, such as revoking the mint authority before metadata exists. It does not save money compared with the CLI.

For a Token-2022 token with a transfer fee, the Tax Token Creator costs 0.15 SOL plus about 0.005 SOL of rent, with no Metaplex fee because the metadata lives inside the mint.

What do authority revokes and other follow-ups cost?#

Revoking authorities costs only a network fee with the CLI, and 0.02 SOL each through a SOLTidy tool. Buyers check the mint and freeze authorities first, so most launches revoke both; the reasoning is in how to launch a Solana token.

Follow-upCLI or free routeSOLTidy
Revoke mint authority~0.000005 SOL (spl-token authorize ... mint --disable)0.02 SOL at creation or with Revoke Mint Authority
Revoke freeze authority~0.000005 SOL, or nothing if never set0.02 SOL, or nothing if never set
Make metadata immutable~0.000005 SOL with Metaplex toolingFree at creation, 0.02 SOL afterwards
Burn LP tokens~0.000005 SOL0.005 SOL per transaction

How much does a liquidity pool add?#

A pool is optional for creating a token but required for anyone to trade it, and it is the most expensive part of a launch by a wide margin. Creating the token gives it no price; a pool does, at the ratio of the two amounts you deposit.

At the time of writing, in October 2026:

  • Raydium CPMM (standard pools): a 0.15 SOL protocol fee, and Raydium's docs estimate about 0.2 SOL in total with pool rent, token accounts and priority fees.
  • Raydium CLMM (concentrated liquidity): no Raydium creation fee, but several accounts with rent, including tick arrays, the pool state and a position NFT. Check the breakdown in the interface.
  • Meteora: costs depend on the pool type; DLMM positions and new bin arrays require rent, part of it non-refundable. Meteora's interface shows the breakdown before you confirm.

Then comes the deposit itself. Whether that is 1 SOL or 50 SOL, it is not a fee: it is capital exposed to the market, and if the token goes to zero, traders will have swapped worthless tokens for it. After the pool exists, burning the LP tokens (with the CLI or Burn LP Tokens) is how many launches prove the liquidity cannot be withdrawn. Getting the token to show up on charting sites once trading starts is a separate topic, covered in how to get your token on Jupiter, DexScreener and Birdeye.

How does the CLI compare with SOLTidy and pump.fun?#

The three routes cost different amounts because they do different things. Here is a factual comparison for a classic token with name and logo.

Pump.fun's published fee schedule, as of October 2026, lists creating a coin at 0 SOL, a 1.25% fee on bonding-curve trades (0.95% to the protocol and 0.30% to the creator) and 0.015 SOL when a coin graduates to PumpSwap. It used to charge a small deploy fee, so check the current schedule before relying on any number. Pump.fun is the cheapest way to get a tradable coin, because the curve is the market. It is not a way to create a token you control: you cannot pick the supply, keep an allocation in your wallet or choose your own DEX at launch.

A self-created SPL token is the opposite: a few cents to a tenth of a SOL to create, full control, and no market until you fund one.

What does a realistic total look like?#

A realistic budget for a self-launched token, before the pool deposit, is between about 0.0163 SOL (CLI) and 0.34 SOL (a no-code tool plus a Raydium pool):

  • Test token, CLI, no metadata: ~0.0026 SOL.
  • Real token, CLI with metadata, authorities revoked: ~0.0163 SOL, plus a few 5,000-lamport fees.
  • Real token, SOLTidy, mint authority revoked at creation: ~0.1363 SOL.
  • Add a Raydium CPMM pool: about 0.2 SOL more, plus the liquidity deposit.

To convert to dollars, multiply by the current SOL price. At an illustrative $150 per SOL, the network cost of 0.0163 SOL is about $2.45 and a full no-code launch with a CPMM pool is roughly $50, excluding liquidity.

Bottom line#

Creating a Solana token costs about 0.0163 SOL of network rent and Metaplex fee, and that number does not change whether you use the CLI, SOLTidy or another tool. Tool fees buy convenience, not lower network costs; the CLI is free apart from the network. Pump.fun skips the creation cost in exchange for trading fees and fixed rules. The money that actually matters in a launch is the liquidity you put into a pool, so budget for that first and only commit what you can afford to lose.
