Update the metadata of a Solana NFT or a whole collection

Edit the on-chain Metaplex metadata of an NFT you are the update authority of: name, symbol, metadata URI (and with it the image), royalty and creators. Update one NFT, or load a whole collection and apply the same change to every item in batched transactions. Programmable NFTs are supported, and you can lock metadata for good.

What to update

Edit one NFT, or every NFT in a collection at once. The connected wallet must be the update authority.

Every field starts with what is on chain now. Change only what you need.

How it works

  1. Connect the update authority

Connect the wallet that is the NFT's update authority. Only that wallet can sign a metadata update; the tool shows the authority of every NFT it loads and marks the ones you can edit.

  2. Load one NFT or a collection

Paste an NFT mint, or a verified collection address or creator address to list every item over the DAS index. Without DAS, paste the collection's hashlist. Each item's metadata account is then read on chain.

  3. Make your edits

For one NFT, edit the fields directly. For a collection, tick what to change: find and replace in names or URIs, a new symbol or royalty, a new creators list, or make immutable. A preview shows the before and after.

  4. Review and sign

The summary shows the number of transactions and fees. The first transaction is simulated, then each is approved in your wallet with progress, a Stop button, Solscan links and a retry for anything that did not land.

What NFT metadata can be changed

A Metaplex NFT has a metadata account owned by the Token Metadata program (metaqbxxUerdq28cj1RbAWkYQm3ybzjb6a8bt518x1s). It stores the name (up to 32 bytes), symbol (up to 10 bytes), the URI of the JSON file (up to 200 bytes), the seller fee in basis points, up to five creators with their shares, the collection, the update authority and an is_mutable flag. While is_mutable is true, the update authority can change any of those fields; once it is false, nothing can be changed again by anyone.

The image, description and attributes are not on chain. They live in the JSON file the URI points to, usually on Arweave or IPFS. To change an NFT's image you point its URI at a new JSON file. This tool helps with that: paste a new image link and it downloads a copy of the current JSON with the image and properties.files replaced and every attribute kept, ready for you to upload; then paste the new file's link as the URI.

Regular NFTs and programmable NFTs

Regular NFTs are updated with UpdateMetadataAccountV2, which needs only the metadata account and the update authority signature, so three or four updates fit in one transaction. Programmable NFTs (pNFTs, token standard ProgrammableNonFungible) reject that instruction, so the tool uses the newer Update instruction for them, passing the master edition and, when the pNFT has a royalty rule set, the rule set account and the Token Auth Rules program. pNFT updates are larger, so about two fit per transaction.

Fields you do not edit are copied from the chain unchanged, including the collection and its verified flag. For creators, the program has strict rules: a creator that is already verified stays verified, a verified creator other than the signer cannot be removed, and new creators are added unverified (they can verify themselves later). The tool checks those rules per NFT before building anything, and skips and counts NFTs a change cannot apply to. MPL Core assets and compressed NFTs use other programs and are not edited here.

Updating a whole collection

Collection edits apply one change to every NFT you can edit: find and replace in names (for a rebrand), find and replace in URIs (to move from a dying host to Arweave without touching the rest of each URI), a new symbol, a new royalty or a new creators list. NFTs whose update authority is a different wallet, or which are already immutable, are listed and left alone.

Each transaction carries as many updates as fit in Solana's 1,232-byte limit and pays one 0.01 SOL fee. For example, raising the royalty of a 1,000-item collection of regular NFTs takes roughly 250 to 330 transactions, about 2.5 to 3.3 SOL in SOLTidy fees plus about 0.003 SOL in network fees; a single NFT costs 0.09 SOL. Each transaction is a separate wallet approval, and the list is re-read from the chain after a run so you can see what changed.

Questions & answers

How do I change the image of my Solana NFT?

The image is referenced from the JSON file at the NFT's URI. Paste a new image link in the tool to download the current JSON with the new image swapped in, upload that file to Arweave or IPFS, paste its link as the Metadata URI and update. Wallets and marketplaces cache images, so the new one can take a while to show everywhere.

Why can't I edit my NFT?

Either the connected wallet is not the NFT's update authority, or the NFT is immutable. The tool shows the update authority of each NFT; connect that wallet. If is_mutable is already false, the metadata is locked forever and no tool can change it.

Does this work for programmable NFTs (pNFTs)?

Yes. pNFTs are updated with the Metaplex Update instruction, including the rule set account when one is set. The update authority signs as usual; holders do not need to do anything.

Can I change royalties for a whole collection?

Yes. Load the collection, tick Set the royalty, enter the new percentage and send. Every NFT you are the update authority of is updated in batches. Note that many marketplaces now make royalties optional, and pNFT rule sets decide what is enforced.

What does making an NFT immutable do?

It sets is_mutable to false in the same transaction as your edits. After that nobody, including you, can change the name, URI, royalty or creators. Collectors often see that as a guarantee the art will not be swapped, but it is permanent, so make sure the URI points to permanent storage first.

Is there a fee?

Updating one NFT costs 0.09 SOL. Collection updates cost 0.01 SOL per transaction, each carrying as many NFT updates as fit (usually 2 to 4), on top of Solana network fees.
