Editing unlocks when the metadata is mutable and your connected wallet is the update authority. If the mint has no metadata at all, the mint authority can create it instead.

Where a Solana token's name and logo are stored
The mint account of an SPL token contains only numbers and keys: supply, decimals, mint authority, freeze authority. The name, symbol and logo come from a second account owned by the Metaplex Token Metadata program. Its address is derived from the mint, using the seeds metadata, the program ID and the mint address, so every wallet and explorer can find it without a registry.
That account stores the name (up to 32 bytes), the symbol (up to 10 bytes) and a URI (up to 200 bytes) on-chain. The URI points to a JSON file hosted elsewhere, which holds the description, the image link and optional links to a website or socials. This page reads the account directly and, when the URI is an https or ipfs link, fetches the JSON to preview the logo. Other URI schemes are shown but never loaded.
How to change a token's name, symbol or logo
An edit is one UpdateMetadataAccountV2 instruction signed by the update authority, the address that was set when the metadata was created, usually the creator's wallet. It works only while the account's is-mutable flag is true. Name and symbol are replaced on-chain directly. To change the logo or description you publish a new JSON file and put its link in the URI field; with uploads enabled, the tool pins your image and the JSON to IPFS and fills in the link for you.
The instruction replaces the whole data block, so a careless update can erase fields you did not mean to touch. This tool copies the seller fee, creators list, collection and uses values from the current account back into the update unchanged, which matters for tokens and NFTs that have verified creators. Wallets and explorers cache metadata, so expect a delay of minutes, sometimes hours, before the new name or image appears everywhere.
Immutable metadata and transferring the update authority
Making metadata immutable sets the is-mutable flag to false in the same update. The Metaplex program only allows that flag to go from true to false, so after this no one can edit the name, symbol or URI again. Holders and scanners treat it as a sign that the token cannot later be rebranded into an imitation of another project. Note that immutability covers the on-chain fields only: if the URI points to a server you control, the file behind it can still change, which is why content-addressed storage such as IPFS or Arweave is preferred.
Transferring the update authority hands the right to edit to another address, for example a multisig or a new team wallet. Your wallet loses access the moment the transaction confirms, and a mistyped address cannot be corrected. Both actions require an extra confirmation in the panel.
Adding metadata to a token that has none
Tokens created with the spl-token command line have no Metaplex account, which is why wallets list them as Unknown Token. If your connected wallet is the mint authority, this page offers to create the metadata with a CreateMetadataAccountV3 instruction for the same 0.02 SOL fee. The network additionally charges about 0.0051 SOL of rent for the new account and a 0.01 SOL Metaplex creation fee.
Creation needs the mint authority's signature, so it is impossible once the mint authority has been revoked: add metadata first, revoke second. Token-2022 mints can carry their name and URI in a built-in metadata extension instead of a Metaplex account. The panel detects those and tells you; editing that extension is not supported here yet.
Questions & answers
How do I change the logo of my Solana token?
The logo is the image field of the JSON file your metadata URI points to. Upload the new image here, or host a new JSON file yourself, then update the URI with this tool while connected as the update authority. If the JSON sits on a server you control you can also replace the file in place, but wallets may keep showing the cached old image for a while.
How much does it cost to update token metadata?
A flat 0.02 SOL SOLTidy fee per update, inside the transaction you sign, plus the Solana network fee of about 0.000005 SOL. Updating an existing account needs no extra rent. Creating a missing metadata account adds roughly 0.0151 SOL that goes to the network and the Metaplex program. Viewing any token's metadata is free.
Is it safe? Can this tool take over my token?
The tool is non-custodial and cannot sign anything for you. The transaction holds one Metaplex update instruction and the fee transfer, both visible in your wallet. The update authority changes only if you fill in the transfer field yourself, and the metadata becomes immutable only if you tick that box; both require a separate confirmation.
Why can't I edit the metadata of my token?
There are three possible reasons, and the panel tells you which applies. The metadata may be immutable, which is final. Your connected wallet may not be the update authority; the correct address is displayed. Or the token is a Token-2022 mint that uses the built-in metadata extension, which this page does not edit yet.
Can I undo making metadata immutable?
No. The Metaplex program rejects any attempt to set the flag back to mutable. After that update the name, symbol and URI are frozen for the life of the token. Double-check spelling and make sure the URI points to permanent storage before you lock it.
Can I still update metadata after revoking the mint authority?
Yes. Edits are signed by the update authority, which is a separate key stored in the metadata account, so revoking the mint or freeze authority does not affect it. The one exception is creating metadata for a token that has none: that step requires the mint authority and becomes impossible after it is revoked.
Will an update remove my creators or collection?
Not with this tool. The update instruction overwrites the full data structure, so the panel reads the current seller fee, creators, collection and uses values from the chain and writes them back exactly as they were. Only the name, symbol and URI you edited change, plus the mutable flag or update authority if you chose those options.
Why does my wallet still show the old name or image?
The on-chain change is immediate; the panel reloads the account after confirmation so you can verify it. Wallets, explorers and DEX screeners cache metadata and images on their own schedule, from a few minutes up to a day. Some aggregators use their own token lists and need a separate update request.
Is there a fee?
Updating or creating token metadata costs a flat 0.02 SOL SOLTidy fee per transaction; creating a missing metadata account also costs about 0.0151 SOL of network rent and Metaplex fee, and viewing metadata is free.
