Key takeaways
- As of November 2026, GMGN's documentation states that private keys cannot be exported on any chain, including Solana, and that wallets imported from outside cannot be exported either.
- Closing a Solana token account needs the owner's signature, so the rent in a GMGN-generated wallet's empty token accounts cannot be reclaimed with an outside tool without that wallet's key.
- If you imported your own wallet into GMGN, you still hold its private key and can close its empty token accounts by importing the key into Phantom or Solflare.
- Each coin bought on Solana opens a token account holding 0.00148844 SOL of rent, or 0.00203928 SOL if it was opened before Solana lowered rent in 2026.
- Any website or bot offering to export or recover a GMGN private key is not a GMGN feature and should be treated as a scam.
The short answer
GMGN is different from most trading apps: its documentation says private keys cannot be exported, on Solana or any other chain. Since closing a token account must be signed by the wallet that owns it, you can only reclaim the rent in a GMGN wallet's empty token accounts with an outside tool if you imported that wallet into GMGN yourself and still have its key. For a wallet GMGN generated, the honest answer is that outside tools cannot close its accounts; withdraw your SOL and trade from an imported wallet next time.
Each empty account holds 0.00148844 SOL, or 0.00203928 SOL if opened before Solana lowered rent in 2026. The general background for bot wallets is in reclaiming SOL from trading bot wallets; this post covers what is specific to GMGN, checked against GMGN's docs on November 5, 2026.
How does GMGN hold your wallet?
GMGN creates trading wallets for you. Its multi-wallet guide says that when you start with the Telegram bot, "a new wallet address will be automatically generated." Logging in with Phantom does not mean you trade from your Phantom address either: "GMGN will create a multi-chain custodial wallet account based on your Phantom wallet."
The same guide says you can create up to 10 wallets and import up to 10 more. That split matters for rent, as you will see below.
Can you export a GMGN private key?
No. GMGN's import, export, deposit and withdraw guide states:
- "GMGN all chains ( SOL chain / EVM chain / Tron chain ) are prohibited from exporting private keys"
- "Wallets imported from outside also can't export private keys"
One older section of GMGN's multi-wallet page still links to an export tutorial, but the dedicated wallet page is explicit, and I found no announcement reversing it. Treat export as unavailable.
That rules out the usual cleanup route, which is to export the key, import it into a wallet app and close accounts there. It also means any site, bot or "support agent" offering to export or recover a GMGN key is not GMGN. Those are phishing setups.
Why does a GMGN wallet pile up token accounts?
The same way any Solana trading wallet does. A wallet holds each token in its own token account, and the first buy of a coin creates that account and funds it with a rent deposit. Selling everything sets the balance to zero but does not necessarily close the account. Fast memecoin trading touches a new mint with almost every trade, so a busy wallet can reach hundreds of accounts in a few months.
| Source | Per item | 100 items |
|---|---|---|
| Empty token account, opened after the 2026 rent change | 0.00148844 SOL | 0.1488 SOL |
| Empty token account, opened before it | 0.00203928 SOL | 0.2039 SOL |
| pump.fun or PumpSwap volume accumulator | 0.0013462 SOL | at most 2 per wallet |
These are rent figures, not GMGN data. To see your own, paste the GMGN wallet's address into an explorer and open its token accounts view; empty ones show a zero balance. Reclaiming SOL after pump.fun trades explains the accumulators.
How do you reclaim rent from an imported GMGN wallet?
If you brought the wallet into GMGN with "Add New Wallet / Change Private Key", you already have its key, and GMGN's export ban does not matter. Importing into GMGN does not move the key out of anywhere; both GMGN and any other wallet app can sign for the same address.
- Find the original key. It is the one you pasted into GMGN, from Phantom, Solflare or a wallet generator. Do not look for it in GMGN.
- Import it into a wallet app. Use the Import Private Key screen in Phantom or Solflare on a device you trust. Check that the address matches the GMGN wallet character for character.
- Connect to a closer. SOLTidy's Token Account Closer scans SPL Token and Token-2022 accounts, preselects the empty ones and batches them; each batch is simulated before you sign. The wallet cleanup on the home page does the same scan plus dust, NFTs and pump.fun rewards.
- Review before signing. Untick coins you will trade again soon on GMGN, since reopening costs a new deposit. Leave the pump.fun accumulators if the wallet still trades there.
- Sign each batch and check the SOL arrived. The fee is 5% of the SOL recovered, taken inside each transaction, and nothing when nothing is recovered.
If you used several imported wallets and are finished with all of them, the Wallet Consolidator sweeps SOL and tokens from many wallets into one and can close the emptied token accounts on the way, for 0.0009 SOL per wallet. It needs each wallet's private key pasted into the page. The keys stay in your browser, but only use it for wallets that were disposable to begin with.
What can you do with a GMGN-generated wallet?
Less, and I would rather say so than send you to a tool that cannot help:
- Check what is actually there. Look up the address on an explorer. If most token accounts are already closed, there is little to recover.
- Withdraw your SOL and tokens. Per GMGN's docs, withdrawals are on the GMGN website, only to whitelisted addresses, with a 3-hour hold after first setting or changing the whitelist. The docs also say each wallet "must maintain a minimum balance", so "Max" will not move the entire balance.
- Ask GMGN. If you want the account rent, GMGN is the only party that can sign for that wallet. Use its official support channels only.
- Weigh the amount. For most wallets, empty token accounts hold a few tenths of a SOL at most.
Do not pay anyone who claims they can recover a GMGN key or "unlock" rent for you.
How do you avoid this next time?
Import a wallet you control instead of trading from a generated one:
- Create a fresh Solana wallet in Phantom or Solflare, or with a wallet generator, and back up its key or seed phrase offline.
- Import that key into GMGN with "Add New Wallet / Change Private Key". GMGN's docs note that importing on the SOL bot does not delete your old wallet address.
- Fund only what you trade with.
- Every month or two, connect the same wallet to a closer and reclaim the rent from coins you are done with.
The key now lives in two places, so treat that wallet as a trading wallet, never savings. The Solana wallet security checklist covers the habits.
Bottom line
On GMGN, the export rule decides everything. Imported wallet: you hold the key, so import it into Phantom and close the empty accounts as you would anywhere. Generated wallet: GMGN's docs say the key cannot leave, so outside tools cannot reclaim its rent; withdraw what you can and switch to an imported wallet. For Axiom, which works differently, see reclaiming SOL from Axiom wallets.
Questions & answers
Can you export a GMGN private key?
Not according to GMGN's own documentation as of November 2026. Its wallet guide says all chains, Solana included, are prohibited from exporting private keys, and that wallets imported from outside cannot export them either. If a site or bot claims to export a GMGN key for you, it is not a GMGN feature; do not give it your login or anything else.
How do I reclaim SOL rent from a GMGN wallet?
If you imported the wallet into GMGN, import the same private key into Phantom or Solflare, connect it to a closing tool and close the empty token accounts. If GMGN generated the wallet, you cannot sign for it outside GMGN, so outside tools cannot close its accounts; check the wallet on an explorer, withdraw what you can, and ask GMGN support whether it offers a cleanup option.
How much SOL is locked in a GMGN wallet's token accounts?
One token account per coin the wallet bought and did not close. Each holds 0.00148844 SOL, or 0.00203928 SOL if opened before Solana's 2026 rent change. A GMGN wallet that bought 100 different coins could have about 0.15 to 0.20 SOL in empty accounts, plus up to 0.0027 SOL in pump.fun and PumpSwap volume accumulators.
Why can't I withdraw my full SOL balance from GMGN?
GMGN's docs say each on-chain wallet must keep a minimum balance for data storage and transfer gas, so clicking Max does not send the whole balance. Withdrawals happen on the GMGN website, only to whitelisted addresses, with a 3-hour hold after you first set or change the whitelist.
How can I avoid locked rent on GMGN in future?
Trade from a wallet whose key you already hold. GMGN lets you import a wallet by private key, and while GMGN will not export it again, you keep the original key. You can then close that wallet's empty token accounts from Phantom or a closing tool whenever you like.
