Key takeaways
- Solflare moves NFTs that top marketplaces have not verified into an Unverified folder, where they can be burned or moved back into the main gallery.
- Solflare's help center describes a Close Account option in a token's three-dot menu that closes a zero-balance token account and returns its rent to the main balance.
- Closing an empty SPL token account from Solflare returns 0.00148844 SOL, or 0.00203928 SOL if the account was opened before Solana lowered rent.
- Unstaking in Solflare is free and takes until the end of the current epoch, while its Instant Unstake option charges 0.5% to 3% depending on available liquidity.
- Hiding a token or NFT in Solflare changes only what the app displays; the token account and its rent deposit stay on chain until the account is closed or the asset is burned.
The short answer#
To clean up a Solflare wallet, let its Unverified folder catch spam NFTs and burn the ones that hold rent, close empty token accounts to get back 0.00148844 to 0.00203928 SOL each, and withdraw stake accounts that have finished unstaking. Solflare handles NFT spam well and can close a zero-balance account from its menu, one at a time. For dozens of empty accounts or stake accounts it does not display, a bulk tool or the CLI is quicker.
What does Solflare already do to keep a wallet clean?#
Solflare filters a lot of spam before you see it. Since April 2024 its NFT gallery shows NFTs verified by top marketplaces and moves all others into an "Unverified" folder, where, in Solflare's words, you can burn them if they are spam or move them back if they are simply unverified. Tokens get similar treatment in the token list: Solflare marks tokens "Unverified" when they are younger than about 24 hours, lack liquidity or holders, or show too little organic trading volume, and hides prices for tokens without enough liquidity to quote reliably.
Solflare also simulates transactions before you sign, which is the defence that matters most against the claim sites spam NFTs advertise. Its own help center puts it plainly: an airdropped token or NFT sitting in your wallet is not a threat; clicking its link and signing is.
So in Solflare the cleanup job is less about hiding junk and more about the SOL that hidden junk still holds. Every token you have ever received opened a token account with a rent deposit, and hiding a token or moving an NFT to a folder leaves that deposit exactly where it was. The same is true in other wallets, which is why the Phantom cleanup guide covers similar ground with different menus.
How do you hide or burn spam in Solflare?#
You hide spam by leaving it in the Unverified folder or by disabling the token in your token list, and you burn NFTs from the Unverified folder. At the time of writing, in October 2026, Solflare's help center describes the NFT burn like this:
- Open Solflare, desktop or extension, and go to the Collectibles section.
- Find the NFT and open the three-dot menu next to the Send NFT button.
- Choose Mark as unverified.
- Go back to Collectibles and open the Unverified folder.
- Select the NFT, tick the confirmation box and choose Burn, then confirm the transaction.
The extra step exists because burning lives in the Unverified folder. NFTs Solflare already flagged are there; a junk NFT that slipped into the main gallery has to be marked first. Menu labels change between releases, so if a step looks different, look for the same options in the NFT's own menu.
Whether to hide or burn depends on what kind of NFT it is:
| Item | Hide or leave in Unverified | Burn |
|---|---|---|
| Compressed NFT (most mass spam) | Best option, free | Returns no SOL, only costs a fee |
| Regular Metaplex NFT you are sure is junk | Fine, but the rent stays locked | Usually returns 0.0045 to 0.01 SOL |
| Print edition or token-only NFT | Fine | Returns the token account's 0.0015 to 0.002 SOL |
| Staked, listed or frozen NFT | Only option until released | Fails until unstaked or delisted |
Solflare's burn handles a few items comfortably. If the Unverified folder holds fifty regular NFTs, the NFT Burner shows the exact SOL each one returns and burns them in batches of about five per transaction, for 5% of the SOL reclaimed. The background on why compressed spam returns nothing is in what to do with spam NFTs on Solana.
Never follow a link in an unverified NFT's name or image to "claim" anything, and if you ever did sign on such a site, run a free delegation check after moving your assets somewhere safe.
Can Solflare close empty token accounts?#
Yes, one at a time. Solflare's help center describes closing a token account by checking that its balance is zero, then choosing "Close Account" from the token's three-dot menu; the deposit returns automatically to your main Solflare balance. You pay only the network fee, 5,000 lamports per signature, and get back the full deposit:
- 0.00148844 SOL for an SPL token account opened after Solana lowered rent
- 0.00203928 SOL for one opened before
- about 0.00151 to 0.00207 SOL for a typical Token-2022 account
For a handful of accounts, that is all you need, and it is the cheapest option there is. It gets slow beyond that, for two reasons. Each close is a separate trip through a menu and a signature. And the accounts have to be visible: wallets are built to show what you hold, so empty accounts for tokens you sold months ago may not appear in the list at all, even though they still hold rent.
| Method | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Solflare Close Account | Network fee only | Fewer than about five visible empty accounts |
spl-token close or spl-token gc | Network fee only | People with a keypair file and a terminal |
| SOLTidy Token Account Closer | 5% of recovered rent | Dozens of accounts, hardware wallets, mixed SPL and Token-2022 |
I built the SOLTidy closer for the third row. It scans both token programs, preselects every empty account, packs up to 12 per transaction, and also withdraws the excess rent that older accounts you keep still hold, about 0.00055 SOL each, without closing them. Paste a Solflare address into it for a read-only count before deciding whether the menu route is enough. On 50 empty accounts the deposits add up to between 0.074 and 0.102 SOL; the fuller arithmetic is in how much SOL you can recover from token accounts.
Accounts with a dust balance cannot be closed until they are empty. If the dust has a market, Sell Dust for SOL swaps it through Jupiter and closes the account in the same transaction; if not, it has to be burned.
How do you clean up stake accounts in Solflare?#
Staking has always been central to Solflare, so a Solflare wallet that has been used for a while often carries stake accounts in several states. Each native stake account holds its own balance plus a rent reserve of 0.00166624 SOL, or 0.00228288 SOL if created before the rent change, and none of it reaches your main balance until you withdraw.
Solflare's help center describes the native unstake flow as: Portfolio tab, then the Staking tab, choose an Active stake account, Unstake, Confirm. After about 20 confirmations the account enters its cooldown, and clicking it shows a "Time to unstake" estimate. When the epoch ends, a Withdraw button appears; withdrawing moves the SOL back to your portfolio. The full mechanics are in how unstaking SOL works.
Three Solflare-specific points are worth knowing before you tidy up:
- Instant Unstake costs money. Solflare's help center says it charges 0.5% to 3% depending on available liquidity. Normal unstaking is free and waits at most about two days.
- Partial unstaking splits the account. In Solflare's flow, splitting needs at least 1 SOL to stay delegated in the original account and at least 1 SOL in the new one.
- Withdrawing closes the account. Solflare warns that closing a stake account removes its reward history from the chain's current state, so export reward records first if you need them for taxes.
The Staking tab shows stake accounts Solflare can see for that address. A stake account opened by another wallet, a staking site or a CLI script with your address as authority may still be there, and an inactive one earns nothing. The Stake Accounts tool looks up every account where an address is stake or withdraw authority; looking up and deactivating are free, and withdrawing costs 0.002 SOL per account.
What changes with a Ledger, Keystone or Solflare Shield?#
Nothing about what to clean, only how you sign. Solflare connects to Ledger and Keystone devices, and in December 2025 it launched its own card-shaped NFC hardware wallet, Solflare Shield, which signs by tapping it to a phone. All three sign the same close, burn and withdraw transactions as a software wallet, and you approve each on the device.
Two practical notes. First, Solflare's FAQ says that if a Ledger refuses to sign, blind signing may need to be enabled in the device's Solana app. Blind signing means the device cannot show you the full content of what you sign, so turn it on only for a session with apps you trust, then turn it back off. Second, a bulk tool makes the biggest difference on hardware: closing 40 accounts through a menu means 40 device confirmations, while batches of 12 mean four.
How should you handle several Solflare wallets?#
Clean each address separately, because every wallet in Solflare is its own Solana account with its own token accounts. Solflare's "Add wallet" creates additional wallets under your existing recovery phrase, and you can also import private keys and connect hardware wallets. Its help pages differ on whether a second recovery phrase can be added, so check your own version's menu.
One quirk from Solflare's help center: a phrase imported on the legacy derivation path supports only one address, so additional wallets cannot be added under it. If an old wallet's balances look missing after import, the derivation path chosen under Advanced is the first thing to check. Before you assume SOL is gone, see why your Solana balance is lower than expected.
A sensible order for each wallet:
- Review the Unverified folder; move back anything genuine.
- Burn regular junk NFTs; leave compressed spam hidden.
- Sell or burn dust so those accounts become empty.
- Close empty token accounts.
- Withdraw inactive stake accounts and deactivate any you no longer want.
Bottom line#
Solflare does more cleanup work for you than most wallets: the Unverified folder keeps spam NFTs out of your gallery, burning is built in, and a zero-balance token account can be closed from its menu for the network fee alone. What it does not do is batch. For a few items, use Solflare's own menus. For dozens of empty accounts, or stake accounts the Staking tab does not show, a read-only scan tells you what is there, and a bulk tool or the CLI gets it done in a few signatures instead of fifty.
